I'm pleased to inform you that the veterans, service members, families and the Kenai Peninsula community at large are once again conducting activities to welcome home our peninsula soldiers who currently are deployed or recently have returned from deployments in support of the war on terrorism.

Activities planned include a Kenai Municipal Airport welcome starting this week and a Welcome Home Ceremony on Nov. 10. Expected guests include Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Gov. Sarah Palin.

We are planning on putting up posters, ribbons and banners around the Kenai Peninsula area and the Kenai airport to welcome our service members home. Most were expected to start arriving home Thursday and soon afterward. Contact Nancy Ward at 776-8532 or 776-7076 if you want to help.

Activities planned for the Nov. 10 ceremony include, but are not limited to, a red carpet salute to all our local vets, flowers for the spouses and families of the returning soldiers, a local band or orchestra, color guard, rifle salute and a luncheon provided after the ceremony for the soldiers, their families and honored guests.

Any and all donations are welcome. All monetary donations are handled through the American Legion Post No. 20 for Homecoming II. Contacts at the American Legion are Bob Harrison or Sue Diaz at 283-3222.
