Sunday's race

Posted: Friday, October 20, 2000

What: Pop Secret Popcorn 400

Where: North Carolina Speedway (Rockingham, N.C.)

Time: 1:30 p.m.

Broadcast: Television TNN; Radio Motor Racing Network

Track: 1.017-mile, D-shaped oval

1999 winner: Jeff Burton

What it takes to win: The track demands more from the driver than the race car because the banking 22 to 25 degrees at both ends and the abrasive pavement can wear out a new set of tires in just a few laps. The key is to find a setup and a tempo that not only keeps the car on the bottom groove, but also saves the tires. Otherwise, it could take two sets of tires at a cost of $1,500 a set for every tank of gas

Morris News Service pick: Bobby Labonte

Other drivers to watch:

Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Burton,

Jeff Gordon, Johnny Benson, Ricky Rudd and Tony Stewart
