ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A man was struck and killed by a van Thursday night while crossing Minnesota Drive near Spenard Road, police said.
The accident occurred just before 9 p.m. The name of the victim was not released. The man appeared to be in his 50s and appeared to be intoxicated, Anchorage police Sgt. Rick Shell said.
The driver of the van was under the influence of alcohol, Shell said. He has been identified as Lance J. Bryers, 22. Bryers has not been charged at this time. Police are continuing their investigation.
A clerk at a liquor store near the scene of the accident said the man who was killed had been in the store a few minutes before the accident trying to buy liquor. The clerk refused to sell him any because he appeared to be intoxicated, said Terra Lewis. The clerks offered to call him a cab, but he declined the offer.
