Odie Pack of Odie's Bead-It in the Peninsula Center Mall is hosting the first ever "Bead Show" on the Kenai Peninsula. Odie has invited all beaders from Seward to Homer and Anchorage to get their beads together and show them off, swap, or sell them this weekend at the Mall.
Odie got the idea from listening to customers who come in her shop. "People come in here all the time and tell me I have so many beads, I don't know why I'm in here, so I thought it would be fun for everybody to just maybe sell or trade their beads around and get into new hands and they could think of new things to make with those beads. I mean you can't throw beads away, they're just too pretty, so this is a way you can part with your beads gracefully and send them off to a good home, buy some new ones, or just see some great bead craft, but mainly to just have a lot of fun," said Odie.
According to Odie, beads have been a native art form for thousands of years and have always been popular in Europe and Africa. "Beads have passed from generation to generation so anyone who is just dying to show off their favorite beads, bead craft or art can come in and set up a table and show off until their heart is content and the beads have to go back in the box."
The show will be taking up the entire Mall foyer and will be open to the public all day Friday and Saturday from 10:00am to 8:00pm. Space rental cost for both days to put up a bead booth is $25. For more information on the Bead show and tell, swap or sell October 24-25, contact Odie at 260-7793.
