Area chambers set schedule

Chambers of commerce speakers for the upcoming week include:

Brad Janorschke of Homer Electric Association and Wally Hufford and Linda Zimmerman of Nikiski North Star Elementary will speak at the Nikiski Chamber of Commerce meeting today at noon at Lighthouse Community Church. Bill Popp, Kenai Peninsula Borough oil and gas liaison, will speak Oct. 28.

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Tuesday at the Riverside House. Christine Gehrett and Sherril Miller of the Kenai Peninsula College education program will speak.

Kenai chamber to hold wine and beer festival

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will hold a wine and beer festival and auction at 6 p.m. in the Kenai Mall. The event marks the chamber's 50th anniversary and features Australian wine, Alaska beer and live and silent auctions, including the chance to win a cruise.

Grant writing workshop slated

"Strategic Grantmanship: When to Try and How to Succeed" will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. Participants will learn how to write strategic proposals for grant funding. The class is offered by The Foraker Group.

Tourism council to hold raffle

The Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council is selling raffle tickets for a drawing to be held Nov. 23. The prizes include a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 500 Hunter's Edition ATV, a bear viewing getaway for two and rainbow trout fishing for four on the upper Kenai River.

Tickets are $25 each or five for $100. Ticket sales will be limited to 1,000. People need not be present to win. For more information, call 262-5229.
