Display of teamwork inspiring
On Saturday I had the privilege of watching an amazing display of teamwork, athleticism, and courage. Twelve athletes stared down an unfriendly opponent who would test their preparation and fitness. A handful of supporters were bundled up, cradling cups of coffee in their hands, cheering for their teams.

Mind a-Mazes a success
The KPBSD Mind a-Mazes Competition was held at Soldotna Middle School on Oct. 10. This event, sponsored by the Quest Program, involved over 200 students from Kenai Peninsula schools. Student teams spent the day demonstrating their solutions to this year's challenge: "Crazy Catapults." Students were required to design, construct, calibrate and set off a device capable of launching a ball into a large wastepaper basket. For the "Spontaneous problem," students had 8 minutes to design and build a cantilever using straws, craft sticks and pipe cleaners. These events would not have occurred without the help of many adult volunteers.
