Chambers schedule meetings

The Kenai and Soldotna Chambers of Commerce will hold a joint luncheon at noon Wednesday at the Challenger Learning Center in Kenai. A forum featuring candidates for U.S. House of Representatives is planned. For more information or to RSVP, call the Soldotna Chamber at 262-9814, or the Kenai Chamber at 283-7989.

Kenai business owners recognized

The Rotary Club of Kenai awarded Dustin and Michelle Steinbeck, owners of Country Foods in Kenai, the 2010 Community Business & Vocational Award. The Award was established in 2006 to recognize a non-Rotarian who is in business in Kenai and exemplifies the Objects of Rotary. Among the criteria for consideration is: high ethical standards, fairness to employees, customers, competitors, offer their vocational talents to young people, improve the quality of life in Kenai, and adhere to honesty in advertising, and all representations with the public.

Dustin and Michelle have operated Country Foods since 1990, offering a full grocery line and custom meat market, with retail sales, and special orders for both hard to find items or bush orders. They hire and train young people, and their staff reflects the character of Dustin and Michelle, dedicated to fairness to each customer and great knowledge of their products.

Open house supports Komen Foundation

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce presents a Foot Flare N' Wear's Open House to support the Susan G. Komen Foundation - "Save the Twins for Life," today from 4 to 7 p.m. The event includes food, prozes and support for a worthy cause.

B&B association meets

The Kenai Peninsula Bed and Breakfast Association will meet Saturday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. at the Kenai Cultural and Visitors Center. This is an important work meeting to review past events and develop plans for future educational meetings. For additional information contact President John Steckel of Red Cabin B&B at 283-0836. All members are urged to attend and guests and prospective members are always welcome.

Alaska Small Business Development Center plans seminars

* The workshop "Grant Writing Basics" will be held Friday, Nov. 19 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the Alaska Small Business Development Center at the Red Diamond Center. Loretta Spalding will walk you through the basics to successfully launch your grant writing skills. Cost is $50. Attendance is limited to eight. Register online by Nov. 15 to be guaranteed a computer.

* The Alaska Small Business Development Center will host a seminar on starting your own business, presented by Bryan Zak. on Wednesday, Nov. 17, from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $25. Deadline to register is the Monday prior to the class.
