Fish and Game issue emergency order

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game issued an emergency order effective Oct. 19. This emergency order closes the state resident hunting season for brown bear in registration permit hunt RB100 on Montague Island in Game Management Unit 6 (D). Brown bear hunting regulations in all other portions of Game Management Unit 6 are not affected by this emergency order. Therefore, the regulations in 5AAC 85.020 (a)(5), Hunting Seasons and Bag Limits for Brown Bear, are superseded by this emergency order.

Development center to sponsor workshop

The Small Business Development Center is sponsoring a workshop entitled "Understanding Your Cash Flow Statements" from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Red Diamond Center, Suite 16. A cash-flow budget is a projection of a business' cash inflows and outflows over a certain period of time. A typical cash-flow budget predicts the anticipated cash receipts and disbursements of a business on a month-to-month basis. People applying for a loan, may need to create a cash-flow budget that extends several years into the future, as part of the application process. One-day advance notice is required. The cost is $15. Crisis Center to hold support group

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold a domestic violence support group from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Fridays. There is a $5 fee for each session, but scholarships are available. For more information, call 283-9479.

Association spaghetti dinner slated

The Nikiski Hockey Association will hold a gathering of all community members who are involved with or interested in supporting youth hockey. Spaghetti will be served for a donation of $5 per person or $10 per family at 6 p.m. Saturday in the commons area of Nikiski High School. Those who would like to donate a serviceable item of used hockey gear per person will eat for free.

Fish House to host Chamber Mixer

The October Chamber Mixer will be held at Captain Patties Fish House Restaurant on the Homer Spit. The mixer will showcase the menu offered at the restaurant during the fall and winter hours of operation. The mixer will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. It is open to Homer Chamber of Commerce members and people interested in doing business in Homer or networking with businesses. For more information, call (907) 235-7740.

Refuge to hold trapper class

The trapper orientation class for those wishing to trap on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road in Soldotna. The class is mandatory for anyone wishing to trap on the refuge.

Those who already have attended the class in the past do not need to attend again. The trapper orientation class is sponsored jointly by the refuge and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Challenger center recruiting board members

The Challenger Learning Center of Alaska is recruiting people to serve on its board of directors. There are seats open for one-, two- and three-year terms. The opportunity closes Oct. 31.
