ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) -- Junior Center Steve Cygan scored two goals, including the game-winner, as Alaska Anchorage defeated cross-state rival Alaska Fairbanks 3-2 Sunday and swept the opening two-games of the four-game Governor's Cup hockey series.
The Nanooks scored first, with forward Ryan Reinheller's goal at 7:21 of the initial period.
Cygan came screaming through the crease at 13:47 of the second period to even the game at 1-1. Chris Sikich made it 2-1, Seawolves, on a power play at 6:24 of the final period, but the Nanooks' Bobby Andrews tied it again at 12:11.
Cygan's winning goal came at 13:08 on a breakaway.
Freshman Chris King was in the nets for the Seawolves, and had 24 saves. Goalie Lance Mayes stopped 27 shots for Fairbanks.
UAA (2-2-0) won 3-1 Friday night in the home-and-home pairing against the Nanooks, who now are 0-3-1 for the season. The final two games in the Governor's Cup intrastate series will be played in March.
The Seawolves of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association hold a 4-3 edge over UAF of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association through seven previous Governor's Cups.
