Middle school open to parents

Today Kenai Middle School will host a parent meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Topics of discussion will include the Character Counts! program, critical incident planning, school goals for 2001-02 and problem solving with adolescents. All parents may attend. There will be baby-sitting available for small children. For more information, call 283-4896.

Homer High sponsors sports exchange

Nov. 3, Homer High School will sponsor a winter gear swap from 1 to 4 p.m. The ski team will conduct a ski waxing clinic from 2 to 3 p.m. A $5 fee for the clinic goes to the ski team. For more information, call (907) 235-6018.

Music classes for kids available

The Boys and Girls Club in Kenai is taking registrations for beginning guitar lessons and Movement and Music classes. Guitar classes start Monday. Students may use the club's guitars or bring their own. Cost is $50, plus $20 for an instruction book for new students ages 12-18. The Movement and Music class begins Nov. 1. Activities include music, dance, tumbling and games. Cost is $50, plus a $10 junior membership fee for nonmembers. Scholarships are available for both classes. For more information, call 283-2682.

WRCC to hold monthly meeting

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center in Kenai will hold its monthly board meeting Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at the center. The meeting will be followed by the annual membership meeting at 5:15 p.m.

Violence awareness quilt on display

As proclaimed by President George W. Bush and Gov. Tony Knowles, special attention is focused on the issues of domestic violence during October -- Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Locally, Women's Resource and Crisis Center clients have provided the artwork for a quilt, which was stitched together by WRCC staff. The quilt will be displayed for public viewing at the following places:

Today -- Soldotna Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Riverside House

Thursday -- North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce meeting at the Lighthouse Inn in Nikiski

Friday -- Charlotte's Restaurant in Kenai (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

Saturday -- Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna

Open house planned for health building

A dedication ceremony and open house will be held at the new Kenai Health Building at 630 Barnacle Way in Kenai Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. This joint project, supported by the state Division of Public Health, the city of Kenai, the Kenai Peninsula Borough and Central Peninsula General Hospital, houses Public Health Nursing services in Suite A and diagnostic imaging services, a lab draw station and clinic space for CPGH in Suite B.
