Center to offer video program

The Kenai Peninsula Community Care Center is offering the video-based program "Active Parenting of Teens." The program will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and will meet each Friday for eight weeks starting today at Central Peninsula General Hospital in the Iliamna room.

The program will include scenarios relevant to teen issues, professionally led group discussion and support, and practical and effective ideas for raising teens in today's world.

It also will address effective communication, importance of relationship development between parent and teens, alcohol and substance abuse and sexual behavior.

Blood bank is having shortage

The Blood Bank of Alaska is having a shortage on all types of blood. Due to the current critical shortage of life saving blood, the Kenai Peninsula Center, located upstairs in the Blazy Mall, will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. For more information or to make an appointment, call 260-5672.

Association spaghetti dinner slated

The Nikiski Hockey Association will host a gathering of all community members who are involved with or interested in supporting youth hockey. Spaghetti will be served for a donation of $5 per person or $10 per family at 6 p.m. Saturday in the commons area of Nikiski Middle-Senior High School. Those who would like to donate a serviceable item of used hockey gear per person will eat for free.

Moto-Cross banquet planned

Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions Moto-Cross Division will have its awards banquet at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Riverside House in the upstairs dining room in Soldotna. Dinner is $15 for adults and children 12 and under are $12. There also will be a no-host bar available. Everyone is welcome. Women's center to hold meeting

The Board of Directors of Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold its monthly board meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. For more information, call Laurie at 283-9479.

Chamber to host luncheon

The North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce will have Jim Evenson, artist and homesteader, speak at its luncheon at noon Thursday at the North Kenai Baptist church. The public is welcome to attend.

Borough to offer avalanche workshop

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management will offer an Avalanche Hazard Recognition Workshop from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 16 at in the Soldotna High School auditorium. Registration will take place between 9 and 9:25 a.m. Snowboarders, snowmachiners, telmark skiers, cross-country skiers and back-country enthusiasts are encouraged attend.
