Comprehensive plan update meetings set
The Kenai Peninsula Borough will hold public meetings to present its draft update of the 2005 comprehensive plan from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Hope School gymnasium.
The comprehensive plan team will give a presentation about the planning process and key findings of the plan, followed by an open house that will feature discussions about issues, goals, objectives and plan implementation actions.
Meeting participants will have an opportunity to ask questions, comment and complete written questionnaires on the plan.

Limited flu vaccine still available for children
The Department of Health and Social Services Kenai Public Health Center has vaccine available for children 6 to 35 months of age, but no longer has any available for children 3 years and older.
Vaccination is recommend for all children 6 to 23 months of age because they have one of the highest rates of hospitalization from influenza.
The same vaccine is used to immunize children 24 to 35 months of age with chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, asthma, cancer or HIV or AIDS.
The center anticipates receiving more vaccine and will issue a public announcement when it is made available for those who meet the high-risk guidelines. For more information, call 335-3400.
Internet health resource class today
There will be an Internet class titled "Health Resources and How to Evaluate Web sites" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Kenai Community Library. The class will introduce participants to three medical sites and cover the five important guidelines to consider when evaluating information on a site.

Ted Stevens to speak at chamber
Sen. Ted Stevens will be the featured speaker at the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce luncheon at noon Tuesday at the Riverside House. He will give a congressional update followed by a question-and-answer session. The public is invited. For more information, call Sharon Hamrick at 262-9814.
Cesarean awareness meeting planned
The Alaska Chapter of International Cesarean Awareness Network will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Woman's Way Midwifery at 149 Corral Ave., Suite 2. Childcare is available. Babies and spouses are invited to attend, as are supportive birth professionals.

Bazaar, bake sale set
The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center will hold its annual fall bazaar and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 4 through 6 at the center. Ceramics, glassware, jewelry, wood and baked goods are some of the items that will be for sale. A snack bar will be open during the sale.
Swim team begins registration
The Peninsula Piranhas swim team will begin registration for returning simmers or swimmers who have reached level four or above at the Kenai Central High School summer swim lessons from 5 to 6 p.m. Nov. 4 in the KCHS commons. Tryouts and registration for new swimmers will begin at 5 p.m. Nov. 8. For more information, call 283-7476.
