JUNEAU (AP) -- Deputy Labor Commissioner Dwight Perkins will replace Pat Pourchot as Gov. Tony Knowles legislative director.
Perkins, who dealt with the Legislature often while he was with the Department of Labor and Workforce Development, will be Knowles' main liaison to lawmakers. Pourchot was recently appointed commissioner of the Department of Natural Resources.
''His knowledge of the issues facing Alaska, as well as his rapport with the Legislature and local government, will enable him to do a great job,'' Knowles said.
Perkins, 46, worked with the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 262 in Juneau from 1976 until 1994, when he joined the Labor Department as a special assistant.
Perkins was also a member of the Juneau Assembly from 1994 until he stepped down this year.
Perkins will be paid about $85,000 annually as legislative director.
