ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Police have charged a pair of 14-year-old boys with making a false report and harassment in connection with an anthrax hoax last week.
Police said the boys used a three-way telephone system and randomly called four Anchorage residents whose addresses were listed in the phone book.
The boys told the hoax victims that they were doctors, that there had been an anthrax spill on their street and that they needed to make an appointment to be tested, police said.
One person who was called contacted police and provided a phone number to the home where the call had originated.
Detective Joe Barth interviewed and arrested both boys on the misdemeanor charges. Each boy was released to the custody of his parents.
