Grizzlies topple Nikiski, Seward

Grace stays perfect

Grace Christian came back from a 1-0 defecit to win three straight and beat the Nikiski Bulldogs 3-1 in District 3/3A play Saturday in Anchorage.

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start, winning the first game 25-15. After that, however, it was all Grace, with the Grizzlies reeling off 25-14, 27-25 and 25-16 wins to close out the match.

For Nikiski, Saharai Thompson and Georgie Heaverley each pounded three aces on the match, while Stacey Griffel racked up 12 assists. Heaverly also led the Bulldogs with nine kills. Sasha Auldridge added 18 digs for Nikiski, which fell to 7-7 overall and 6-4 in District 3.

With the victory, Grace moved to 13-0 on the season.

Nikiski 3, Heritage 1

The Bulldogs notched a District 3/3A victory with a four-game win at Heritage Christian in Anchorage Friday.

The Eagles took the first game 26-24, but the Bulldogs got rolling with a 25-16 win in the second game. Nikiski took the third game 25-8 and closed out the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth game.

Colony 3, Homer 2

The Colony Knights and Homer Mariners went the distance Friday in Homer, with Colony pulling out a 3-2 Region III/4A win over the Mariners.

The teams traded game wins throughout the match, with Colony winning game one, 25-21. In game two, Homer turned the tables for a 25-21 win of its own. Colony won the third game 25-18.

The Knights' 15-8 win in the decisive fifth game came after Homer fought back to win the fourth game, 25-20.

Palmer 3, Homer 0

Palmer set the tone early Saturday, beating Homer 25-9 in the first game en route to a 3-0 match victory in Region III/4A play at Homer.

The Moose never let up against the host Mariners, winning game two 25-21, then closing out the match with a 25-20 win in game three.

Seward 3, Heritage 2

Seward needed five games to put away a pesky Heritage Christian team in District 3/3A play Saturday in Anchorage.

The Seahawks battled back to win games two and three after losing the first game, 25-21. Heritage forced a fifth game with at 26-24 fourth game win, but Seward was able to close out the match 15-10.

Grace Christian 3, Seward 1

The Grace Grizzlies remained unbeaten on the season with a 3-1 victory over Seward Friday in Anchorage.

Grace easily won the first two games, 25-18 and 25-17. Seward was able to avoid a sweep by taking the third game, 25-18, but Grace quickly recovered to take the fourth game, 25-22.
