Winter gear sought

Peninsula Grace Brethren Church is collecting winter coats and other winter clothing, in new or used condition, for its annual Coats for the Community drive. The collected winter clothing will be given away free of charge from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 4 at the church at Mile 19.5 of Kalifornsky Beach Road across from Craig Taylor Equipment.

Donations are being accepted at the following locations through Wednesday: Kenai and Soldotna Safeway stores; the church; and Kenai Central, Soldotna and Skyview high schools. For more information, call 262-6442 or e-mail

Poster contest today

Kenai Lions Club is hosting a peace poster contest from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center. Children ages 11 through 13 who live in the Kenai area are eligible to enter. For more information, call Ryan Mills at 283-3333, e-mail him at or visit the club’s Web site at

SoHi, Skyview conferences set

Skyview High School will hold parent-teacher conferences from noon to 3 p.m. and from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

Soldotna High School will hold parent-teacher conferences from noon to 3 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. today, also.

Book fair continues

The Sterling Elementary School book fair continues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the school. Books for children preschool through elementary school ages, as well as, cooking and craft book will be available. For more information, call 262-4944.

Haunted house opens Saturday in Soldotna

The Triumvirate Theatre in the Peninsula Center Mall will have a haunted house from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Monday and on Halloween.

Admission will be $3 at the door.

Spaghetti feed set to dish

The Sterling Community Coalition will host a free spaghetti dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. Nov. 2 at Sterling Baptist Church.

The dinner invitation is being extended to the Sterling community to meet the group and express concerns or ideas that effect the community.

Duck unlimited banquet set

The Kenai River Ducks Unlimited will host its 24th annual banquet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Soldotna Elks Lodge.

The cost of admission is $60 per person or $90 per couple or $275 for sponsors. Cost includes a membership to Ducks Unlimited.
