Kodiak-based plane joins search for missing Chinese fishing boat

Posted: Friday, October 27, 2000

KODIAK (AP) -- The U.S. Coast Guard has joined in the search for a missing Chinese fishing boat about 750 miles southwest of Adak.

A C-130 transport plane and crew from Air Station Kodiak were assigned to the search for the overdue vessel Thursday. That came after a request from the U.S. Department of State on behalf of the People's Republic of China.

The ''Ping An 8'' is a 90-foot squid boat with 27 people on board. The last known communications with the boat came Oct. 18.

An aircraft from the Japanese Federal Maritime Service searched for the ship and crew Wednesday. A Navy P-3 from Misawa Naval Air Station, Japan, also was looking in the area.
