God's never too busy, just make sure you dial the correct number

In February, I was invited to give a presentation about the ministry of LOVE INC to the people of a church in Soldotna.

People who need food, shelter, budget assistance, counseling, family help -- all kinds of needs -- are referred to the LOVE INC clearinghouse by churches and agencies. Their church members had a desire to share Christ's love with neighbors in need and wanted our clearinghouse to link their church people with these neighbors.

Talent Tithe Inventories were distributed to the congregation, giving them an opportunity to share their time and gifts with neighbors in need who call this coming year.

One woman decided she met someone who she thought could really use the help of LOVE INC. She looked up the phone number to LOVE INC on the bottom of the inventory to call. She dialed the number and when the phone was answered, she proceeded to tell the needs of the person she had encountered.

When she finished, the stunned voice on the other end said, "Lady, I don't know who you are trying to call, but I don't think we are who you think we are. This is the liquor store."

Apparently the number we had listed for LOVE INC on the Talent Tithe Inventory had a 262 prefix instead of 283. The person who answered the call was exactly right when they said they couldn't help with the specified needs. The 262 number will never be able to supply the answers or help needed.

The true answer and help can be found through the right phone number. We were able to give diapers and formula to a young, single mother of three through the Soldotna church. They also continued to keep tabs on her and are showing her the one who can meet her needs.

On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in Me, as the scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." John 7:37-38

I am so thankful to the people who give of their time, talent and resources, allowing the right connection to be made so LOVE INC can continue to meet the needs here on the Kenai Peninsula -- God's switchboard to a dry and thirsty community.
