WASHINGTON (AP) -- Sister Lourdes Sheehan, secretary of education for the U.S. Roman Catholic bishops' conference, has been promoted to be one of the organization's three associate general secretaries. Monsignor William P. Fay, who in February becomes general secretary, or chief staff executive, made the announcement.
Sheehan succeeds the departing Sister Sharon Euart in holding that rank, alongside newly appointed Monsignor David J. Malloy and layman Bruce Egnew, who continues in office.
Sheehan, a Georgia native, has been the Catholic school superintendent in Richmond, Va., head of three Catholic education organizations, and leader of a province in her order, the Sisters of Mercy.
