The following list of Soldotna Community Schools classes and activities beginning this week is printed as a reminder to preregistered participants. If you are interested in a class, call the Community Schools office at 262-6768. Children are not allowed to attend an adult class or to wait unattended while a parent takes a class.
Music lessons with Jeff Moore Private music lessons are available for musicians who want independent, private training tailored to their developmental level. Lessons are designed for accelerated growth in performance, technique and music theory. Lessons are available for all band instruments and singing voices regardless of ability. To schedule lessons call instructor Jeff Moore at 262-8484. Lessons are available to students in grades four through 12 from 2:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at Soldotna Middle School portable 8. Lessons are 30 minutes per students and cost $15, paid to the instructor.
Palm Handheld Basics with John Pothast, Palm Educational Training Consultant The class will cover the basic operations of the Palm handheld computers. Topics covered will include inputting dates and the applications that come standard on every Palm, including Date Book, Address Book, To-Do List and Memo Pad. This session is designed for the beginning user. The class has a five-person minimum and 30-person maximum. It meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. for two weeks in the Skyview High School library. The cost is $10.
Cut Your Clutter, Free Your Spirit with Dr. Kathleen Dinius, licensed psychologist By bringing care and awareness to the details of life, you'll get organized and supercharge your personal growth. Learn to practice mindfulness by filing papers, letting go of stuff, cleaning up your physical space and managing your time. As you clean up and organize your outer and inner self, you will find the lightness of being organized. The class is open to teens and adults and meets from 7 to 9 p.m. one night only in Soldotna Middle School room 25. The cost is $15.
No classes or activities at Soldotna Middle School due to parent-teacher conferences.
"Best of Alaska" Slide Show with Greg Daniels of Lure of Alaska Images Participants will view slides from across the state then take a tour of Frames and Things (see below). The slide show is open to all ages and will be offered from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Blazy Mall across from Frames and Things. There is no fee.
Frames and Things Tour with Brian Erwin, manager, and Gayle McIntire, assistant manager Participants will learn to "back room" steps involved in framing artwork, including color selection, mat cutting and framing. The tour is open to teens and adults and meets from 3 to 4 p.m. at Frames and Things in the Blazy Mall. There is no fee.
Paper Making with Joyce Cox, Girl Scout field executive Get wet and make paper! Various materials will be used to make paper with a range of textures and colors. There will be two, age-appropriate session of this class. Children ages 5 to 8 will meet from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and those ages 9 to 17 will meet from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Each class has a 10-person minimum and 15-person maximum. Both classes meet in the Kenai Peninsula College art room. The cost is $12 for Girl Scout members and $22 for nonmembers.
Soldotna Community Schools will offer a landscape design class during the winter-spring session. Anyone who might attend should take pictures and measurements of the areas to landscape now, before snow distorts the physical features of the land.
