Canned food drive slated
The Soldotna and Skyview high school cheer leading squads are holding canned food drives as part of the upcoming state cheer competition to be held Nov. 11 and 12. Canned food donations may be dropped off at either school.
Boys and Girls to host trunk or treat
The Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula will host a trunk or treat event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in front of the club on Frontage Road in Kenai. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and dress for the weather. This activity is for children ages 13 and younger. Volunteers and donations of individually wrapped candy are needed. Road maintenance meeting set
Rep. Paul Seaton will moderate a meeting between residents living along the North Fork Road corridor and officials from the state of Alaska at 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Anchor Point Senior Citizens Center, Mile .25 of Milo Fritz Road.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the complaints and desires of area residents in regard to state maintenance of the road and to clarify the state's current and future maintenance and upgrade schedule. For more information, call Louie Flora at (907) 235-2921.
CGC test scheduled
The Kenai Kennel Club will hold testing for the Canine Good Citizen program Nov. 12. The testing is preceded by a six-week class, but taking the class is not required for testing.
The test includes 10 situations demonstrating the dog's ability to remain calm and under control in certain situations, such as when being approached by another person or a dog. The program is offered through the American Kennel Club and is open to all dogs. Registration for testing will start at 6 p.m. Nov. 12, and testing starts at 6:30. Childbirth classes scheduled
Central Peninsula General Hospital will hold several prepared childbirth classes at the hospital. The cost is $75 per class. Classes need to be prepaid. For more information or to register for the following sessions, call 714-4788:
Nov. 12 and 13 from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday; and
Dec. 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. every Wednesday for six weeks.
Safe Sitter classes offered
Central Peninsula General Hospital will hold Safe Sitter classes from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 20 and 21 at the hospital. Children must be 11 years old at the time of class and be preregistered.
