Rona and Doug Hodges are the new owners of The Fitness Place in Soldotna. And have taken on a slogan that they hope will make people think of them as the place you need to go when you want to live stronger, longer. They've adopted "Look Better Naked" as the slogan for The Fitness Place. Currently the business is located in the building that was originally the Big K Supermarket owned by the Curly Wright family. The venue was converted from the former retail outlet into an athletic club by Melissa May several years ago when she bought and moved The Fitness Place from the Superstructures Building. Now, with new owners at the helm and a major makeover completed, The Fitness Place has had a grand re-opening. Part of the renovations that Rona and Doug gave the club included new dcor and an updated lounge area, all new rubberized matted flooring and a lot of new equipment and high tech exercise machines.
Rona says that having her own club has been a goal of hers since she first started as an instructor in the fitness industry. "I've been an instructor in the local area for many years, and have always wanted to create an awesome place where people can come in and feel like they're family and have fun working out no matter what level of fitness they may be at," said Rona. She explained that many of the ideas for the renovations came from the members and instructors. "We really value the input from our members and our employees, so we went to work to accommodate everyone's requests and the results of those suggestions are now all around you here at The Fitness Place," she said. Much of the labor for the remodel was done by the new owners themselves. "Basically Rona is the owner of the business and I'm the worker," said Rona's husband and partner Doug.
The Fitness Place has a variety of options to help you get started on the path towards a healthier life. "The best deal is our Fit for Life contracts where you pay for a full year. But we also have 6 month specials where you buy 6 months and get one free. We really have something for every budget and folks should stop by and talk with one of our fitness professionals to see what will 'work out' best for them," smiled Rona. The Fitness Place has expanded its hours and is now open Monday through Friday from 5:00am -10:00pm, the facility is closed Saturdays and open on Sunday from 7:00am - 9:00pm with child care available. "We wanted to accommodate those who like a late night workout. We feel we are a fitness family, and if you haven't been in for awhile or have never been in, we encourage to come and meet our fitness family and check out all the changes," said Rona.
The Fitness Place is located across from JoAnn Fabrics on the Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna.
