Soldotna Community Schools

This listing of Soldotna Community School classes beginning this week serves as a reminder for preregistered participants. Most classes require preregistration and prepayment. If you did NOT preregister, please call the Soldotna Community School office, at 262-6768, to check on cancellations and confirm your attendance. Details about each class can be found in the Fall-Winter 2001 Soldotna Community School brochure, which is available at Soldotna and Kenai public libraries, the city of Soldotna and the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District.

Monday

Palm Pilot Basics

With instructor Eric N. Hart, MCSE of Lambe, Tuter, Wagner and Moore Technology Services. You must have your own Palm Pilot compatible device. Bring sync cradle. Workbook is optional at $10. Class will cover the following: menus, graffiti, shortcuts, address book, calendar, expense and beaming. Binkley Professional Building, computer lab, 6:30 to 8 p.m., two nights (additional class Thursday), teens and adults, four-person maximum, $50.

Tuesday

Toddler time (new time)

Open gym for the little people to cruise. Supervision by parents. Bring physical education toys to share. Soldotna Middle School, multi-purpose room, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., nine weeks, 1- to 3-year-olds with parents, no fee.

Open art studio

With facilitator Ann Wilson, art teacher at Soldotna High School. A time to "rub elbows" with SoHi artists and practice your skills. Bring your own materials. No instruction provided. Soldotna High School, art room, 2:30 to 4 p.m., six weeks, adults, $2.

Hallwalking

Walk the Soldotna Middle School hallways -- in lighted, carpeted hallways, out of the weather. Eight laps is one mile. Soldotna Middle School, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, $5 a month (walking three times a week).

Wednesday

Intro to Rock Climbing

With instructors Pete Campbell and Mike Gatling. Instruction on safety, technique, ropes and slings. All proceeds go to equipment. Three can climb at once. For further information, call Pete at 335-5482. Students under 16 must be accompanied by a parent. Parents must sign a release for anyone under 18 years of age. Walk-ins welcome. Kenai Middle School, multi-purpose room, 6:30-8:30 p.m., six weeks, all ages, $5 per night or $25 per series.

Indoor Soccer (ninth through 12th grade)

With facilitator Tony Lewis, soccer coach. Soldotna Middle School, gym and multi-purpose room, 7 to 9 p.m., 10 weeks, $1 per night.

Thursday

There will be no Thursday evening basketball due to Soldotna Middle School conferences.

Risk Taking For Personal Growth

With instructor Kathy Dinius, licensed psychologist. Learn to decide what risks are worth taking. Determine the kinds of risks you need to take. Understand and conquer the fears that are keeping you stuck. Assess the benefits and consequences of different risks. Liberty Building (174 W. Redoubt Ave., Soldotna), 7 to 9 p.m., one night, adults, six-person minimum, 10 maximum, $15 per person.

Note: Children are not allowed to attend an adult class or to wait unattended while a parent attends a class.
