Nikiski grad pursues master's degree

Adam S. Bute, a 1997 Nikiski High School graduate, received a bachelor's degree in theater arts from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif. Bute is pursuing a master of fine arts degree in acting at the Chicago College of Performing Arts/Roosevelt University. He is the son of Alan and Paula Bute of Nikiski.

Resident's daughter named Student of the Month

Nikole Gaskell, daughter of Nancy Eason of Soldotna and Don and Sam Eason of Melba, Idaho, has been named Student of the Month at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. Gaskell is a senior at BSU, a recipient of the George C. Marshall ROTC Award and an honor society member.

Sterling senior enlists in Army

George A. McMichael Jr. has enlisted in the United States Army's Delayed Entry Program which allows an individual to join the Army, secure their guarantee and delay their actual departure date for up to one year. Sgt. First Class Robert Grant, of the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Soldotna, said that McMichael's test scores and enlistment as a combat engineer qualify him for up to $40,000 under the Army College Fund program. McMichael will leave for basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., July 23. McMichael is a senior at the Academy of Higher Learning in Sterling and is the son of George A. and Sandra L. McMichael of Sterling.
