Posted: Friday, October 29, 2004

Q. Where do I go to vote?

A. If you are not sure of the location, contact 1-888-383-8683 or visit www.-elections.state.ak.us or the Borough Clerk's office at 262-8608.

Q. What are the poll hours?

A. They are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you want to avoid the crowd, go between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. or from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Q. How can I vote if I am going to be out of town or working late on Nov. 2?

A. You can vote by absentee ballot at the Kenai City Office M-F 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or the Borough building in Soldotna M-F 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Sunday noon until 4 p.m.

Q. What happens if I show up at the polls, know that I'm registered, but my name doesn't appear on the list?

A. Don't give up. Ask a poll worker, who will direct you to another location or give you a provisional ballot.

Q. How do I actually go about the process of voting?

A. Take the envelope given to you by the worker, go behind the curtains of a booth and take the ballot from the envelope. Use the provided pencil to color in the circles beside your preferences. When finished, put the ballot back into the envelope and head for the worker standing behind the machine that sounds like a can opener. The worker can show you how to deposit the ballot.

Q. What to take along?

A. Identification, just in case.

A cheat-sheet is Okay. Take it right into the booth with you.

A friend. Maybe they need a ride or just a little encouragement.

What a privilege to vote! Take time, take responsibility! Wear your "I Voted" sticker with pride.
