Little attention paid to Bush supporters

What others say

While considerable attention has been paid in the media to entertainers supporting John Kerry, little mention has been made of sports legends who back George W. Bush.

One endorsement, signed by 24 current and former athletes, was posted on the Bush campaign Web site. The signers included John Elway, Jack Nicklaus, Ernie Banks, Karl Malone, Roger Staubach, Lynn Swan, Nolan Ryan, Bob Feller, Craig Biggio, Carlos Beltran, Chris Speilman, Bernie Kosar and Mary Lou Retton.

They wrote: "The same qualities that make a great athlete make a great president the determination to do what is right, regardless of the latest polls, the personal strength to bear the weight of the nation on your shoulders and the faith that a higher power will direct the actions of good people.

"President Bush's decisive, principled leadership has moved America forward, and today our nation is safer and our economy is strong and getting stronger."

That was relevant to their experiences, and was rational, uplifting and well stated as opposed to the vitriolic tirades of many Bush-bashing Hollywood leftists.

John Kerry seems to have a lot of support among people who accumulate considerable wealth by reading scripts, faking emotions and singing lyrics in a make-believe world. Bush appears to have backing from those who become wealthy by competing directly and, through hard work and perseverance, find ways to excel.

Maybe that is a reflection on differences in the policies of the candidates.
