Ninilchik resident Jack Andrew Johansen died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, at his home near Ninilchik. He was 44.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the American Legion Cemetery. American Legion Chaplain Bill Carlson will officiate. A luncheon will follow at American Legion Post No. 18 in Ninilchik.

Mr. Johansen was born Dec. 1, 1958, in Anchorage. He grew up and received his education in Kodiak and graduated from Ninilchik High School in 1976. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1976, serving in Germany. He was discharged in 1979. He returned to Ninilchik and worked as a commercial fisher.

"Jack is remembered for his willingness to help any of his friends and his unfailing good nature. He always enjoyed hunting, fishing and clamming with his friends," his family said.

Mr. Johansen was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Johansen, and a sister, Lillian Johansen.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Virginia and Jack Kvasnikoff Sr.; son, Brandon Gunderson; daughter, Tiffany Stonecipher; brothers, Jacob Johansen, Benjamin Johansen, Stanley Johansen, Jack Kvasnikoff Jr. and his wife, Marla, and Gene Johansen; sisters, Cheryl Matson and husband, Larry, Shirley Manzell, Sandra Ward, Jackie Fisher and husband, Bill, Karen Moonin and Ramona Kvasnikoff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
