ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Two decades after taking the job, Connie Godwin is retiring as Sen. Ted Stevens' press secretary.
Stevens on Monday hosted a surprise press luncheon in Washington for Godwin, 74, who plans to work until the end of the year.
A former editor with the late Anchorage Times, Godwin was 54 when she was recruited by Stevens to launch a new career working for him, she said at Monday's lunch.
Godwin retires as the longest serving press secretary in the Senate at the present time, Stevens said.
