FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A Fairbanks man was sentenced Wednesday to 13 years in prison on a charge stemming from allegations the man molested an 11-year-old girl three times last year.
Judge Charles Pengilly sentenced Peter C. Edwin, 35, to 10 years in prison on a charge of attempted sexual abuse of a minor and three years in prison for a probation violation from a 1995 Fairbanks case in which Edwin had been convicted of attempted sexual abuse of a minor.
A grand jury indicted Edwin in February on one count of first-degree and two counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor based on allegations he molested the girl between May and August 2001.
Edwin agreed to plead no contest to one count of first-degree attempted sexual abuse of a minor in exchange for the state dismissing the other charges.
According to a criminal complaint, a warrant for Edwin's arrest was issued after Alaska State Troopers investigation revealed the girl had been molested while playing a computer girl. The girl called Edwin ''Uncle Peter'' but they were not related.
