Chamber to hold meeting

The North Peninsula Chamber of Commerce luncheon begins at noon today at the North Kenai Baptist Church. The speaker is Jim Evenson, Nikiski artist and homesteader. The public is welcome to attend.

Trick-or-treating planned at mall

There will be trick-or-treating at the Peninsula Center Mall from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Photos also can be taken with a scarecrow from 5 to 8 p.m. today and Friday.

Program celebrates caregivers month

The National Family Caregivers Support Program is celebrating November as the National Family Caregivers Month. The program was created to help provide information, resources, training and support for caregivers of the South Central Peninsula. The program will hold its monthly caregiver meetings at these times and locations: at 1 p.m. Friday at the Port Graham; at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center; and at 1 p.m. Nov. 21 at Forget-Me-Not Care Center.

There will be training on elder abuse from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center. For more information, call 262-5456.

Subsistence comments due Friday

Written comments on proposed revisions to federal subsistence regulations that allow for cash sales on subsistence-caught fish are due Friday. The regulation change proposes to allow "customary trade" between rural subsistence users and others, including cash sales of fish to nonseafood industry buyers. The Federal Subsistence Board is expected to make a determination on the new rules at its January meeting. Stock cars, drivers wanted

The Kenai Peninsula Racing Lions want stock cars and drivers. Join KPRL circle track division's monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Friday at the Riverside House, downstairs, in Soldotna. All people interested in racing in 2003 are encouraged to join. For more information, call 283-9078 or 283-8321.

Remembrance planned Sunday

Hospice of the Central Peninsula will conduct its annual community memorial, Celebration of Remembrance, Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church on Kenai Spur Highway near the Soldotna "Y."

All are welcome to the nondenominational spiritual event, according to Liz Schubert, executive director of the local Hospice group, which serves individuals with a life expectancy of less than six months and their family members. Hospice also offers family bereavement services to anyone who has lost a loved one. A new youth bereavement program began this year as well.

The free program Sunday will include musical performances by the Christ Lutheran Church Bell Choir and the Bel Canto Kid's Choir and poetry readings by Kari Mohn and Charlissa Magen. A short program based on the four seasons also will be presented as well as a responsive offering by Pastor Dale Kelly of the United Methodist Church. Refreshments will be served.

Anchor Point checking interest in center

For people interested in a community center for Anchor Point there is a Community Rivers Planning Coalition informational forum to learn what is needed to establish a community center. It will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Chapman School library.

All stakeholders are invited to participate, and representatives from all of Anchor Point's organizations are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 235-8177, ext. 5.

Historical association plans auction

The Kasilof Historical Association will hold an auction from 7 to 9 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Tustumena Elementary School. Donations can be left at the Kasilof Mercantile or the Kasilof Post Office. For more information, call 262-5125. There also will be a pie auction. Pies should be dropped off on Nov. 15. The historical association is a nonprofit organization, and donations are tax deductible.

Club to hold basketball registration

The Boys and Girls Club will hold registration for its third- and fourth-grade coed basketball league. The season runs from Dec. 9 through Feb. 8. Registration deadline is Nov. 8. Chamber's Christmas lights competition planned

Nominations for the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce's annual Christmas lights competition can be called or faxed to the chamber office. Nominations should include a name and address. First- through third-place prizes will be given in commercial and residential categories. Homer Electric Association is providing energy credits as prizes.

The deadline for nominations is at 5 p.m. Dec. 9. Winners will be announced in mid-December. For more information, call Shanon at 262-9814.
