Nome man dies in weekend car crash

Posted: Thursday, November 01, 2001

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A Nome man died Saturday morning when he ran off the Nome-Council Highway and was ejected from his car.

Steven Gray, 37, was the only occupant of the 1987 Toyota Tercel, Alaska State Troopers said. Gray, who did not wear a seat belt, sustained a fatal head injury as a result of the crash about two miles east of Nome.

People who had been with Gray on Friday evening told troopers Gray had been drinking alcohol. The State Medical Examiner's Office requested a blood sample to determine his blood-alcohol content, troopers said.

State court records indicate Gray had a 1997 conviction for drunken driving.
