Best Bets

The 14th annual Kenai Clay Exhibition reception is Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kenai Fine Arts Center. The exhibition will be on display through Nov. 30. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday (except Thanksgiving) 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is at 816 Cook Ave.

The Performing Arts Society presents "Concert in Contrasts," an evening of classical and jazz music with flutist Dorli McWayne and pianist Eduard Zilberkant at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Kenai Peninsula College. Tickets are $12 for students and senior citizens and $15 for general admission. Tickets are available at Northcountry Fair and River City Books in Soldotna, Alaska Gift Gallery in Kenai and at the door.

Events and Exhibits

The Bragg Family gospel singing group will appear at the North Kenai Baptist Church at 7 p.m. Saturday and at the Aurora Heights Assembly of God Church at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Musicians Johnnie Cunningham, Susan McKeown and Aidan Brennan will perform Celtic music Sunday at 4 p.m. at Peninsula Grace Brethren Church. Tickets are $10 at the door. For more information, call 262-6548.

Kaladi Brothers in Soldotna presents Chelline Larson as its artist of the month.

Artwork by Kenai Peninsula artists can be viewed and purchased at the following area businesses: Art works, Birch Tree Gallery, Claudette's Folk Art and Collectables, Malfunction Junction Gifts and Northcountry Fair in Soldotna, Alaskan Gift and Gallery and Fireweed Herb Garden in Kenai and Peninsula Furs Inc. in Sterling.

Old Town Village Restaurant features historic pictures of the early days in Kenai.

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Information Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are many scenic hiking trails, including the Kenai River trail, which begins near the center. The center is on Ski Hill Road near the intersection of the Sterling Highway and Funny River Road in Soldotna. For more information, call 262-7021.

The Decanter Inn in Kasilof presents country western music from Bubba and Sue at 9 p.m. Friday.

River City Books presents Lois and Holly playing folk and country music Saturday at 7 p.m.

River City Books presents the Skyview Jazz Combo at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The Katmai in Kenai presents karaoke with Sherri at 9 p.m. Fridays, The Danglin' Wrangler performs country music at 9 p.m. Saturdays, and ladies' night karaoke is Tuesdays.

George's Casino in Kenai has a DJ playing Top 40 music every Tuesday through Saturday at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday there is live music.

The Riverside House in Soldotna presents "After 10," a dance party, Friday and Saturday nights. DJ Ian will play favorite Top 40 dance music until 5 a.m.

Kenai Central High School presents "The Wizard of Oz" Nov. 8 through 10 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5 at the door. For more information, call 283-7524.

The Cook Inlet Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse youth group will hold a drug and alcohol free benefit dance to raise money for the New York disaster Nov. 11 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Great Skate Roller Rink in Soldotna. There will be skating, dancing, raffle prizes and live music from the Mabrey Brothers.

Workshops will be held Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays in the lower level of the Pratt Museum from 3 to 5 p.m. On these days, kids ages 5 to 95 may drop in at the museum to participate in hands-on arts and crafts activities that explore the history, art and cross-cultural connections in the museum's exhibits and collections. The Anchorage Opera will present Giacomo Puccini's "Tosca," Nov. 10, 14, 16 and 18 in the Discovery Theatre at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. The Anchorage Museum presents an art exhibit by David J. Woodie through Nov. 11.
