Nikiski Community Council to meet

'Village of Lights' kickoff planned
Kenai Mayor John Williams and members of the Kenai Chamber of Commerce will begin the Village of Lights at 5 p.m. Monday in the Leif Hansen Memorial Park. The Village of Lights will continue through Feb. 1.

Job seminar planned
The Peninsula Job Center will hold a seminar covering the Little Davis Bacon 1 percent fee requirement and state laws. The seminar will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the job center in Kenai. Fleet Truman of the Wage and Hour Division will present. There is no fee.

Children's basketball team forming
The Boys and Girls Club is taking registrations for third- and fourth-grade co-ed basketball league players through Friday. The season will run from Dec. 8 through Feb. 14. Fees are $50 for members.
Participants must renew their $20 annual Boys and Girls Club membership fee for 2004. Registration forms can be downloaded from www.positiveplaceforkids.com. For more information, call the club at 283-2682.
Cheerleaders holding food drive
The Skyview and Soldotna high school cheerleaders are collecting canned and dried goods for the Food Bank of Alaska.
The cheerleaders will attend the state cheerleading competition Thursday and Friday, where they will compete for a community service award.
KCHS to sponsor blood drive
The Kenai Central High School National Honor Society will sponsor a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 12 in the green room at the school.
Participants must be at least 17 years old, have a parent's permission slip and have identification for proof of age. Permission slips can be obtained at the KCHS office. For more information, call Kathleen Herring at 283-7524.
