Bazaar, art show slated

The Soldotna Senior Center fall bazaar, art show and bake sale is today and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the center at 197 West Park Ave. For more information, call 262-2322.

Botanical group to gather Saturday

The November meeting of the Kenai Peninsula Botanical Society will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. in room 137 at Kenai Peninsula College. There will be an updated lecture on the spruce bark beetle by Boyd Shaffer.

Tustumena 200 seeks volunteers

Anyone interested in helping with the Tustumena 200 should attend a mandatory sign-up meeting at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Tustumena Lodge at Mile 111 of the Sterling Highway. People attending this meeting will be given preference for slots for this year's race (and a bowl or two of chili).

Historical Society to meet Sunday

The Kenai Historical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Kenai Community Library.

The speaker will be Cathy Pearce, a history professor at Kenai Peninsula College. She will tell about the plan to create an archive of the peninsula's history at the college, and will answer questions about what materials are appropriate, how or if they would be duplicated, and how they would be stored and accessed by the public.

Members of other historical societies, and anyone else who might make use of the archive are welcome to attend.

Time permitting, videotapes of local people who told stories for the Communities of Memory project a few years ago will be shown after the talk.

Blood Bank holding drives

The Homer Health Fair Community Blood Drive will be Saturday in conjunction with the Homer Health Fair. It is in the Homer High School gymnasium from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Nikiski Community Blood Drive will be from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Nikiski Fire Station No. 2. The fire station is on the North Road by the turnoff to Nikiski Middle-Senior High School.

Drink lots of caffeine-free liquid and eat a good meal before donating.

Booster club plans talk about season

The Skyview Nordic Ski Team Booster Club meeting will be Monday at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Skyview teachers' lounge. If you have a Skyview skier or would be interested in helping the team, please attend. Discussion will include upcoming events and getting acquainted.

North Peninsula council to meet

The North Peninsula Community Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Nikiski Senior Center. It is open to all residents of the north peninsula.
