KODIAK (AP) -- The Army is keeping silent for now on the date of the next rocket launch at Kodiak.
Ed Allen, facility manager at the Kodiak rocket complex, said the Army wants the date confidential as a result of security concerns stemming from the Sept. 11 East Coast terror attacks.
The next launch will be a non-orbital rocket sent up for the Army Space and Missile Command based in Huntsville, Ala. The craft will be used in the testing of the proposed missile defense initiative.
Community leaders had been advised that the launch would occur Nov. 9.
Allen said the target date is still sometime toward the middle of the month but the Army will not publicize the date until the launch is closer.
