Land trust to hold membership meeting

The Kachemak Heritage Land Trust will hold its annual membership meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Pratt Museum. Local historian Janet Klein will present the history of homesteader Victor Holm lived on the Kasilof River in 1890. For more information, call Marla McPherson at 235-5263.

Community Rivers Planning Coalition meeting set

The Community Rivers Planning Coalition will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Anchor Point Visitors Information Center. The new CRPC watershed coordinator will be present. For more information, call Lindsay Winkler at 235-8177, ext. 5.

Historical Society meeting slated

The Soldotna Historical Society board of directors will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday at River City Books. The public is invited to attend. For more information, call Barbara Jewell at 262-4157.

Sen. Gary Stevens to moderate meeting

The Kenai Peninsula Borough will sponsor a public information meeting on the recently issued natural gas leases, shallow gas development including shallow coal bed methane from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Homer High School Commons. Sen. Gary Stevens will moderate.

Topics to be discussed will include the lease process, drilling and production methods, surface and subsurface ownership and rights, tax issues, water quality and other topics related to the possible development of shallow natural gas and coal bed methane in the lower Kenai Peninsula.

A panel of representatives will answer questions and listen to the publics concerns. The public is encouraged to attend.

Thanksgiving baskets to be offered

The North Star United Methodist Church, through the cooperation of other area groups, will offer Thanksgiving baskets to Nikiski area families in need. Request forms can be obtained at the Nikiski Post Office and Nikiski and North Star elementary schools.

Dinner boxes will be available for pick up Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. to noon at the church across from the old Chuck Wagon Restaurant. Requests must be returned by Nov. 14.

Social Security rep to visit peninsula

Social Security Administration representatives will be on the peninsula at the following locations and times: from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Seward City Council chambers; noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 19 at Kenai City Hall; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Homer Senior Citizens Center.

Meetings continue this week to discuss the update to the Kenai Peninsula Borough's Comprehensive Plan. Meetings have been scheduled for:

Cooper Landing: 4 to 5:30 p.m. today at Cooper Landing Community Hall;

Moose Pass: 7 to 9 p.m. today at Moose Pass Community Hall;

Kenai Peninsula Tourism Marketing Council: 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, KPTMC Building, Kenai;

Kenai Chamber of Commerce: Noon Wednesday at Paradisos Restaurant, Kenai;

Clam Gulch-Kasilof: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at Tustumena Elementary School;

Ninilchik: 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ninilchik Senior Center;
