Bazaar, bake sale fund-raiser continues

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center’s fall bazaar and bake sale continues from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the center.

A variety of baked goods and vendor items will be available. The snack bar also will be open. For more information, call 776-7654.

Farm Bureau harvest dinner set

The Farm Bureau harvest dinner and quarterly meeting will be today at the Ninilchik Fairgrounds. A potluck begins at 6 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m.

Live entertainment also is planned. It is open to the public. For more information, call 235-6278.

Community discussion planned

The Center for Mediation and Community Dialogue will hold a First Friday Dialogue meeting at 7 p.m. today in the Kenai Peninsula College commons. The topic will be “Am I Crazy or What” — about how people learn, process and understand things differently. A potluck dinner will precede the meeting at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

The purpose of the First Friday Dialogues is to bring people in the community together in a safe forum for listening, speaking and learning. For more information, call Chris Gehrett at 262-0367.

Developmental screening fair scheduled

Frontier Community Services will hold a kids screening fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at its office in the Red Diamond Center on Kalifornsky Beach Road. Children ages birth to 3 are eligible to attend.

Free vision and hearing screenings also will available for children ages birth to 5.

Senior cafe open

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center’s Breakfast Cafe is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. It features an all-you-can-eat buffet. The cost is $6.50 and family rates are available.

The cafe is closed on major holidays.

Medicare to be discussed

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center will host a presentation on the Medicare part D plan at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the center.

Voters group to gather

The Central Peninsula League of Women Voters will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Lois Pillifant will host. For more information or directions to the meeting, call 260-3111 or 262-3908.

Competency-based education to be discussed

The Kenai Peninsula School District will hold community meetings to discuss competency-based education. Topics will be its possible implications and the direction the public would like to see for the future of education in the public school system.

Community meetings are open to the public and scheduled for the following dates: Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Ninilchik School library; Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Seward High School library; and Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Homer High School library.
