ANCHORAGE (AP) -- An assistant U.S. attorney has been appointed district election officer to investigate voting day violations.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Loeffler will serve as district election officer for Alaska.

Federal law calls for an election officer to protect voting rights and to prosecute election crime.

Loeffler will supervise other assistant U.S. attorneys and FBI agents, who will be on duty on Election Day to receive complaints of election fraud.
