Mother's group to be held

A group for pregnant women and mothers with young children who would like to meet other area mothers and discuss parenting issues will meet at 3 p.m. Monday at the Kenai WIC office, located in the Seaman Building. The group has a strong breastfeeding emphasis and is led by peer counselors.

Contracting and eCommerce workshop planned

The Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC Alaska) will host a "Government Contracting and eCommerce" workshop at the Seward Chamber of Commerce Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mike Taylor, program manager for PTAC Alaska, will present information and provide online demonstrations of electronic commerce that local, state and federal agencies are using and its impact on private enterprise.

Assisted living discussion planned

Steve Ashman, of Alaska Housing Finance Corp., will speak on assisted living on the central Kenai Peninsula at the Kenai Senior Center Tuesday at 11 a.m.

Public invited to 'election central' Tuesday night

Kenai Chrysler Center is hosting "election central" with hors d'oeuvres, a no-host bar and up-to-the-minute election results beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The public is invited.

Kenai Chrysler is located at 10288 Kenai Spur Highway.

Blood donations needed

The Blood Bank of Alaska's Kenai Peninsula Center in conjunction with the Nikiski Fire Station No. 2 will hold a Nikiski Community Blood Drive Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Nikiski Fire Station No. 2, located near Nikiski High School.

Participants are asked to drink plenty of caffeine-free liquids and eat a good meal before donating.

Flu shots available

The Soldotna Senior Center will administer flu shots Thursday and Nov. 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. Sign-up sheets are available at the center.

Pneumonia shots may be administered if the person has not had a shot in the last five years or if they are in a high risk category.

Participants are asked to wear short sleeves, and a donation of $10 is requested. Medicare also can be billed.

Fish and Game advisory committee to meet

The Cooper Landing Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Cooper Landing Ambulance Hall. The group will receive comments and proposals to change Southcentral hunting and trapping regulations, comment and vote on Board of Fisheries proposals and update the Federal Subsistence Board Kenai Peninsula Rural Determination Reconsideration and subsistence fishery proposals.

Pie auction slated

A homemade pie auction will be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Kenai Senior Center. The proceeds from the auction will go to the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Kenai.

Deadline approaches for Junior Miss

The deadline for applying to take part in Alaska Junior Miss is Nov. 30. The competition will be held Jan. 27 at the Soldotna High School auditorium.

Interested young women who are high school seniors graduating in the spring of 2001 should contact a high school counselor or call Reean Pitts at 262-5919.
