Soldotna chamber's pie auction proves to be delicious success

The Soldotna Chamber's Sixth Annual Pie Auction was a huge success. This event is the chamber's largest fund-raiser of the year and helps to support our local scholarship program, as well as other chamber programs.

Two hundred and twenty people attended the Hawaiian-style dinner prepared by the Soldotna Senior Center, Kim and Richard Hamilton of Mana Kalani Sauces, and Claudea Templeton and Sherry Spence, who also volunteered in the kitchen.

We wish to extend our sincerest appreciation to all of the businesses that provided merchandise and services for this function, as well as to those who baked and purchased all of the pies. Thank you also needs to go to the Soldotna High School cheerleaders for serving all of the dinners and helping with the cleanup, BJ's for their festive bar service and the staff of the Soldotna Sports Center for all their help with the set up.

Special thanks to our main event sponsors: First National Bank of Anchorage, Williams Petroleum and Hawaiian Vacations. Norm and Barb Blakeley and Leland Chumley (Blake-ley's Auction Co.) also deserve a huge thank you as they provided their auctioneering professionalism as well as Barb's famous pies. Thanks also to Wes Roberts for setting up his sound system and Kaladi Brothers for the 10 pounds of coffee that was served with the pies. And, last but not least, kudos to our decorators, Sammie Cole, Donna Mortenson, Linda Anderson, Karen Griglione and Betty and Chuck Obendorf -- another wonderful event! On behalf of the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, our thanks to everyone who helped to make this year's pie auction the Soldotna social event of the year!
