Register today for facilitator workshop

Today is the last day to register for the Kachemak Bay Campus of Kenai Peninsula College two-day workshop on basic facilitation skills. The workshop is in Homer Thursday and Friday.

Jane Oakley from Resource Solutions, with 25 years of training and facilitating experience, will present information for those who conduct meetings, want to participate more effectively in meetings or work with boards, commissions, agencies or work groups. Participants will gain and practice skills for focusing meetings and getting results.

Ulmer coming to Kenai

Lt. Gov. Fran Ulmer will be the speaker at Wednesday's meeting of the Kenai Chamber of Commerce. She will speak about her candidacy for the governor's seat. The weekly luncheon is at noon at the Old Town Village Restaurant and open to the public.

Fish and Game committee to meet

The Kenai-Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road. The meeting concerns fish and game proposals and future regulations. The public is invited to address concerns. For more information, contact Brent Johnson at 262-4763.

Santa seeks handy 'elves'

Soldotna Community Schools offers its annual Santa's elves class on toy making this month. The organizational meeting will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Soldotna Middle School wood shop.

SMS woods teacher John Tabor is the instructor. Spenard Builders Supply sponsors the activity.

The class is for anyone who wishes to help manufacture and assemble wooden toys for needy families for Christmas. In past years, the crafters have made crayon holders, cribbage boards, puzzles, stick horses, cat and mouse games and more.

The woodworking sessions will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and again Nov. 17 in the SMS wood shop. If you have tools, bring them. Lunch will be provided. It is not necessary to attend both Saturdays.

Investment specialist to host seminar

Matt Streiff, the Edward Jones investment representative in Kenai, will host a seminar titled "Tax changes that matter to you" at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Kenai Merit Inn.

The free seminar will outline the sweeping tax changes made this year and how to take full advantage of the changes. Although much attention has focused on tax rate cuts and rebates, other important changes deal with college savings plans, retirement planning, retirement accounts and estate planning.

The session also will include a question-and-answer session with Bill Coghill from Mikunda Cottrell and Company.

South peninsula planning body to meet

The Kachemak Bay Advisory Planning Commission will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at the Homer Electric Association Building in Homer. For more information, call chair Dale Banks at (907) 235-4029.

Job center advisory meeting slated

The next Kenai Peninsula Job Center Local Advisory Committee meeting will be Nov. 15 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the job center in the Kenai Mall in Kenai.

Area businesses may attend to tell the committee how it could to better serve the community. Lunch will be provided by the Job Center.
