Area president elected to high office

Penny Wilson, cabane president of La Societe de Femme, Cabane 1539, of Kenai, was elected to the office of La Sous President Nationale at 40/8 Nationale Convention in Hagerstown, Md., on Sept. 14.

Penny will oversee membership and affairs for nine western states, including Alaska. She is also an officer and volunteer for American Legion Auxiliary No. 20 and AMVETS Auxiliary No. 4.

La Societe de Femme supports the Societe of 40/8 and all veterans programs such as child welfare, disaster relief and nurses training.

Student chosen for residence life program

Ben McGarry, a junior at George Fox University in Newberg, Ore., from Kasilof, has been chosen to serve in the residence life program on the Newberg campus.

Student residence life members serve as resident assistants, house managers, apartments managers and assistant area coordinators and are selected for their leadership abilities, life management skills, plans for extra-curricular activities, management of stress, ability to deal with confrontation, ideas on building community and their Christian and personal maturity.

Elks table tennis tournament winners announced

The winners of the Oct. 24 Soldotna Elks Table Tennis Tournament were Gary Brumley and Wayne Brooks in first place, Dale Bagley and Joe Szczesny in second place and Steve Bruekner and Chad Botirius in third place.

The winners of the Wednesday Soldotna Elks Table Tennis Tournament were Wayne Brooks and Gus Guenther in first place, Joe Szczesny and Gary Brumley in second place and Dale Bagley and Ray DeBardelaben in third place.
