Commercial fisherman goes overboard in Bering Sea

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a man who fell overboard from a commercial fishing vessel in the Bering Sea.

Coast Guard officials said Mike Moran, 35, fell overboard from the fishing vessel Western Queen shortly before 8 a.m. Monday when he became entangled in fishing gear. The accident occurred about 15 miles south of St. George Island.

Coast Guard officials said Moran is from the Seattle-Tacoma area.

Moran was not wearing a survival suit or flotation device when he fell from the vessel. The search was called off at about 5:30 p.m.

The Western Queen is a 178-foot catcher-processor vessel. It was fishing for cod at the time of the accident.
