Soldotna resident Elsie Orene Blevins passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at her home in Soldotna. She was 81.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Soldotna. Burial will be in Spruce Grove Memorial Park in Kasilof following the funeral.
Mrs. Blevins was born July 2, 1921, in Fredericksburg, Va. She lived there until she was 18, then moved to Bethesda, Md., and later to Washington, D.C. She also lived in Texas and California before moving to Seward in 1949.
After living in Seward for 15 years, she moved to Anchorage, where she met and married Jerry Blevins on Dec. 17, 1966. She worked as a waitress, then was a homemaker after retiring. The couple moved to Soldotna in 1970.
Some things the couple enjoyed together were their dogs and music. They also liked to celebrate holidays, especially St. Patrick's Day, complete with corn beef, cabbage, soda bread and Irish coffee. She also enjoyed being active; especially bowling, golfing, yard work and walking. On Aug. 7, 2002, Mrs. Blevins was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was loved and appreciated by her church family.
"She will be long remembered for the times shared and enjoyed together. Elsie had a very active mind and a quick sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her," her friends said.
Mrs. Blevins was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Jerry, who passed away June 1, 1992.
She is survived by two stepdaughters, two grandchildren, and many friends in the area.
Memorial donations may be sent in Mrs. Blevins' name to Hospice of the Central Peninsula, 312 Tyee St. No. 3, Soldotna, AK 99669.
