Contributions, volunteers help provide breakfast to students

Posted: Wednesday, November 05, 2003

Love INC of the Kenai Peninsula would like to thank The Fred Meyer Corporation for presenting us with a community grant of $512, Soldotna Medical Clinic for a donation of $500 and the employees of Credit Union 1 for a donation for our elementary school breakfast program.

The Love INC breakfast program is currently serving free breakfasts at five area elementary schools to any student who needs to eat before attending class. This helps the children to be set for success as they begin their day, allowing them to concentrate on learning instead of being hungry.

The money from The Fred Meyer Corporation, Soldotna Medical Clinic and Credit Union 1 will be used to purchase cereal, milk, fruit, cups and spoons. The school breakfasts are served by community members volunteering their time, keeping the cost of each serving of breakfast down to 10 cents. In August and September of this school year, 1,495 servings of breakfast were given to children.

These contributions will help Love INC continue the important work it is doing to enrich the health of the community. We are glad to have The Fred Meyer Corporation, Soldotna Medical Clinic and Credit Union 1 as part of this community as they help where they can, taking social responsibility and community involvement as a priority in being good neighbors.
