Bear Tracks: Brown Bears gaining confidence

Posted: Friday, November 05, 2010

It's nice to win as we did last weekend, but it's sweeter to know we can.

Our Brown Bears have played a great brand of hockey all season. We've lost games on the scoreboard we had the opportunity to close out, but we have not been out-competed often. Our group has really played with a team-first mentality, with passion and a belief in each other. This is something that I am proud to say is us -- it is our identity.

As our league continues to expand and reach all corners of North America, recruiting, scouting, just building a team in general becomes quite the task. Building a team like we have, one that really rallies around each other and stays the course no matter the score, is special.

It is early, but we have already faced letdowns and accomplished previously unthinkable feats. To be honest, we fight the roller coaster that is competitive sport. We fight not to get too low or too high. Keeping a realistic view at all times is crucial -- something we discuss often.

We have our work cut out for us this weekend in Palmer, where we play the Avalanche on Friday and Saturday. No matter how you shape it, last weekend is over. We have had a good week of practice and expect quite the battle against the Avs.

I want to thank all the fans that have come out to support us in our first few homestands. As I hope you've seen, and as I believe, we've got ourselves a hockey team!
