The Greater Kenai Chamber of Commerce drew hundreds to their 17th Annual Wine Tasting, auction and raffle event last week. The Festival of Bacchus was this year's theme, and with hundreds of volunteer hours along with the help of the Kenai High School Art department, The Diamond Rose in Kenai was decorated to resemble ancient Rome.
The annual event is the largest fund raiser of the year for the Kenai Chamber and according to executive director Aud Walaszek, otherwise known as the goddess Athena, "Due the outstanding support from business, volunteers, and the more than 350 guests, we raised an excellent amount of funds for our community," said Walaszek.
Kenai Mayor John Williams, Nelson Amen, of Tesoro Alaska, and Merrill Sikorski, of Sikorski Consulting buckled on gladiator armor and raised plastic swords in greeting guests who pledged to, "have fun and bid high on auction items." The Chamber gushed with appreciation for all who worked to make the event a great success, and especially Norm Blakeley, who conducted the traditional outcry auction.
