Hunter education class, moose hunt appreciated in Ninilchik

Posted: Thursday, November 06, 2003

The Ninilchik School staff and students would like to thank the Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International for sponsoring a Hunter Education Class and Moose Hunt on Oct. 17, 19 and 22.

This was the first time this opportunity was provided for the students of Ninilchik. The learning experience these students received was one they will always remember. Of course, this all could not been accomplished without the collaborative effort from the community. A special thanks to Ted Spraker and Richard Link for spearheading the project and Larry Lewis for the gun safety tips from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

We also would like to thank Jeff Berger, owner of Deep Creek Custom Packing, for providing a facility to hang and process meat. The meat cutters, Bruce Hall and Wally Martin, volunteered to teach our students the proper way to cut meat.

Finally, we thank the Ninilchik Native Association and Cook Inlet Region Inc. for allowing us to hunt on their land, a real community effort that benefited our students.
