Derrel Wayne Pryor
Soldotna resident Derrel Wayne Pryor died Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2005, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna. He was 70.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2005, at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery in Fort Richardson.
Mr. Pryor was born January 27, 1935, in Love Lady (near Rusk), Texas where he was raised and graduated from Rusk High School. Mr. Pryor continued his education by studying premed at the University of Texas. He entered into the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and received an honorable discharge in 1957. Mr. Pryor moved to Soldotna in 1974 and worked for Peter Bowden Drilling, Parker Drilling and Kenai Drilling all in Alaska and for various drilling contractors overseas. He enjoyed fishing and was a National Rifle Association member.
The family wrote, "Friends and loved ones have many wonderful memories of the stories told by Derrel's worldly travels. Derrel loved to fish for halibut in the Cook Inlet with his dear lifelong friend, Jerry Haberthur. Derrel will be greatly missed by his close friends."
Mr. Pryor was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Pryor; father, Henry Eldred Sr.; mother, Anna; and brother, Henry Eldred Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Derilyn Walker of Providence Village, Texas; grandchildren, Randa Klingler, Ryan Walker and Sloan Walker; great-granddaughter, Gracelynn Walker.
Arrangements were made by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
