Peninsula Realtors donate to charities

The Kenai Peninsula Association of Realtors Hospice Chair, Dorothy Cunningham presented the local Hospice with a check for $7,084 at the August meeting. Local Realtors and affiliates in their annual fund raiser collected the donations for hospice.

In October, the Realtors also gave $250 to the Boys & Girls Club After the Bell program, $500 to a Nikiski fire victim and $1,500 to a person with cancer to help out with medical bills.

New dentist comes to Soldotna practice

Dr. Robert W. Morehead will take over for root canal surgeon Dr. Jess Ellis, who will be leaving his Monday practice in Soldotna after 13 years. Morehead was raised in Idaho and received his dental education at the Oregon Health Services University in Portland.

For the last six years Morehead has practiced general dentistry in Oregon, Utah and Alaska. He was invited to join Ellis' office to support its efforts in providing same-day-as-referred emergency root canal treatment, and to reduce the length of time it currently takes for routine endodontic cases to be treated.

Agrium announces Zacharias promotion

Agrium Kenai Nitrogen Operations recently announced the promotion of long-time employee Don Zacharias to human resources superintendent.

For the last 18 months, Zacharias served as the Kenai plant's human resources adviser. He has 29 years of service with Agrium, working in many different roles during his career.

Zacharias will replace Sal Mattero, who retired in September after almost 35 years with the company.

Homer travel agents complete training

Cathy Brandal and Karen McCarty of Homer Travel Services have recently earned the Alaska Destination Specialist designation from the Institute of Certified Travel Agents. The institute's 12 destination specialist courses provide travel professionals with expert knowledge of specific world areas and niche markets enabling them to provide clients with the right travel products.

The 12 programs are Africa, Caribbean, China, East Asia, South Pacific, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, European Culture and Heritage, Hawaii, Latin America, North America and Special Interest Travel.

Charles Schwab sponsors free workshop

Charles Schwab will sponsor two free workshops at the Aspen Hotel in Soldotna on Tuesday. The workshop, Navigating Today's Market, will be held from 4 to 5:15 p.m., and will teach investors how to analyze their current holdings. For more information call 1-800-645-2133.
